218 Psikolojik Bozuklukların Tedavisinde Aydınlatılmış Onam Abstract: Informed consent is a concept in the field of medical law that is seen as a guarantee of the patient’s right to determine his own future. Information, in other words, clarification, is a prerequisite for valid consent. Consent that is not based on information does not make medical intervention legal. However, informed consent is also considered as giving people the right to have a say in medical interventions, to express their own opinions, and to determine their own future. Explicit and informed consent is considered a type of consent that requires meaningful knowledge and understanding as well as an active decision-making process. In this context, informed consent is thought to be of particular importance throughout the treatment and therapy process of a person with a psychological disorder. How to provide informed consent is of critical importance, especially in terms of demonstrating mental competencies such as making decisions about oneself and being able to evaluate the consequences of one’s decisions. Concepts that are predominantly related to the person’s consciousness, such as mental health, spiritual integrity, and decision-making, naturally point to the importance of informed consent in a psychological sense. Along with these concepts, this article will try to focus on how some urgent psychiatric, psychological, and critical situations affect the obtaining of informed consent. In this respect, the concept of informed consent is thought to be located at a point where law intersects deep within psychology as a science.
